If you google: “what is a mindset”, you’ll find: 

  • “Mindset is the established set of attitudes held by someone”
  • Or “Mindset is a fixed attitude, disposition or mood”. 

Not very helpful!
It’s actually misleading!

In this article, you’ll discover:

  • What a mindset truly is.
  • Why changing your mindset is crucial to living a quality life. 
  • An 8-step framework to change your mindset and accomplish your goals.


WHAT’S A MINDSET? 

Mindset is commonly defined as a fixed or established attitude. 

But if that’s the case, I should stop writing and say: 

“Good luck with your life, you’re stuck!”

Thankfully that’s not the case! 

Your mindset is the combination of:

  • The emotions you express.
  • The ideas and thoughts you have. 
  • And the actions you take. 

These aren’t set in stone, they’ll evolve as you do.

HOW HAVE YOU BUILT YOUR MINDSET?

Your mindset emerges from the core beliefs you registered through perceptions and experiences. These beliefs have been gradually built and reinforced from birth to now. For many, they remain subconscious.

It is crucial to realize that your core beliefs aren’t fixed:

  • You can choose to define them as false and delete them.
  • You can edit them to make them more accurate.
  • You can even create new beliefs. 

3 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD CHANGE YOUR MINDSET

YOU HAVE LIMITING BELIEFS! 

We all grew up developing limiting beliefs based on our circumstances. It’s nearly impossible not to. Every day, we are exposed to limiting ideas that potentially become part of our identity. 

LIMITING BELIEFS LIMITS YOUR POTENTIAL!

As a result, they quietly hold us back in our daily thoughts and actions. Anytime you have difficulties acting or solving a problem, it’s a limiting belief playing in the background.   

CHANGING YOUR MINDSET GIVES YOU LIMITLESS POWER! 

Realize that your conscious and subconscious beliefs dictate your thoughts, emotions, and choices. So, to truly address the negative effects of your thoughts, feelings, and actions, you need to dig into your mind’s deeper layers. As soon as you shift your mindset, you’ll gain more control over your life and tap into mental energy to act towards your goals.

But how to change your mindset? 

A POWERFUL 9 STEPS FRAMEWORK TO CHANGE YOUR MINDSET 

AWARENESS

First, become aware of the daily actions you want to execute but struggle with. For instance, say you want to improve your eating habits but always slip back into unhealthy patterns. Stop right there to confront reality. 

REFLECTION 

Then, it’s time to reflect.
Reflection is about asking yourself: “Why?” and writing down everything that comes to mind.
For example:

Why can’t you do X?
“I tried, but it’s difficult”.

Why is it difficult?
“Because of Y and Z”.
Why do Y and Z make it difficult?
“Probably because I didn’t do A”.

Why haven’t you done A?
“Because I felt tired, and I do not like it”.

Why you don’t like it?

You got the point.

It’s going to get uncomfortable and it might irritate you. But the goal is to keep going until you can no longer answer.

UNCOVER THE LIMITING BELIEF.

If you think about it, your answers are thought patterns created by your limiting beliefs. The idea here is to uncover the core underlying limiting belief. To do so, you need to summarize your answers into one sentence.
Example:

“I do not believe I can lose weight! It is hard because my body is different!”.

That’s the underlying belief that makes you struggle to achieve the outcome. 

TRANSFORM IT

Write down a new version of it, a version that is empowering:

“My body is intelligent and capable of losing weight. It’s not difficult. Millions of people have already done it, I just need to figure out the right way and execute.” 

BELIEVE IT

Truly believing something requires you to:

1. Present yourself with undeniable proof that your goal can be accomplished.
2. Express the emotions you would feel when your goal is accomplished. 

Your job here is to do both! 

Search for undeniable proofs then connect to the heightened positive emotions you’d feel when accomplishing your goal.
This process will drive you to execute and prove it to yourself. 

LIVE BY IT

Act every day and remind yourself of it. (review the previous steps). 
Any time you encounter difficulties, old thought patterns will come back. 
Do not let them control your life anymore. Always operate with your new empowering beliefs.  

PROVE IT

Acting relentlessly is the way to accomplish any goal. Doing so will prove to you that your empowering belief is real! And as you do prove it to yourself, you’ll develop trust and confidence to achieve any other goal.

REINFORCE IT

Repeat the results-producing actions religiously until they become second nature, part of your identity, and part of your life!
At this point, nothing can stop you!

CONCLUSION

Your mindset is the core foundation of how you perceive yourself, your life, and your potential. Be aware of your actions, uncover the limiting beliefs driving your negative thoughts, transform them into beliefs that empower you, give yourself undeniable proof, execute to make it a reality, and keep reinforcing your actions until they become effortless.
